I wanted to try my first payment in a Swiss Hotel. The only currency option was Pounds!
How can I check what currency is used as a base? (For me Euro from a French account)

Your base currency is most likely EUR when you registered wit a French address, but the case you are describing is no related to this, I believe. You were falling for DCC, dynamic currency conversion. You can read the FAQs and search this forum to learn more about it and to understand how the Revolut card handles payments in foreign currencies.
