DCC is possible when paying contactlessly. For example, the DCC menu came up on the merchant’s terminal last month when I used Apple Pay in Spain with Revolut MasterCard. This is despite MasterCard being supposed to have banned DCC on prepaid multi-currency cards.
Not according to current Mastercard rules, which say:
- no DCC allowed for PayPass transactions
- no DCC allowed for chip&pin if it’s a multicurrency prepaid card.
If it is allowed or if it is done are 2 different things.
Some acquirer still didn’t update their terminals and they still keep ripping off people
When there’s a risk I try to use an AMEX. They don’t allow DCC.
I had a pretty cool experience in a Polish supermarket - when I went to pay the shopkeeper basically said “Oh Revolut, just tap it” (In Polish though, obviously).
