I am at the Revolut event now. Arthur Johanet has just announced that Apple Pay will be coming soon. They will be launching in the UK first in early June followed by the remaining countries (not the whole EEA) in late June.

The excuse he gave for taking so long is that they’re working with two schemes - MasterCard and Visa, as well as multiple card designs. Just like other card issuers.

They’re going to do in-app provisioning, just like American Express UK launched today. But the impressive part is instant issuing, so you won’t need to wait for a physical card to arrive to start using it with Apple Pay. It will also be available for virtual cards.

Well it will be available in June-July. So it’s within the first batch timeline

Romania will be enabled after Apple will enable the country for Apple Pay, probably in July. Banks like ING and Bank of Transylvania, have already announced it for second half of the year. Revolut will probably follow after that.

I asked a question about whether it will be possible to get an Apple Pay card without ordering a physical card at all. The answer is yes. This could increase uptake of Revolut by new customers who are put off by the initial card fee and don’t need a physical card.

If you are at the event, could you please ask if TestFlight Beta users will get Apple Pay at the same time as UK users, even if they are not a UK resident ? (Switzerland in my case)

@NFL, after the event is over, can you ask how the Apple Pay will be geoblocked ? As users from Romania have UK BIN cards too.

I’m not at the event. But since they know that you’re from Romania, they can just disable the wallet button in the app. Also, Revolut or their integration partner is involved when a card is added, they can simply decline to add cards from Romanian users.

If they would disable the button in Revolut’s app I can still use wallet directly to do that (with switched region ofc).

We will see. I hope the users with old cards with a UK BIN, the cards before the account range Mastercards, will be in luck. I am sure we will find a solution. .

I asked. If you have a UK BIN but are a resident of Romania, then it will work for you.

There are only a small number of beta users, all of whom are employees of Revolut (in the UK).
