So arriving here to pay at the hydroplan airport‘s cafe the payment terminal refuses to pay the local ccy MRF (?) But then accepted USD offering DCC in GBP as usual, but finally charging directly in USD was all fine!! Same in the hotel island - paid in USD without issues. I changed from EUR to USD using a fixed rate. Let‘s see next week Male and ATM. Contactless is not used yet…
Bad experience with ATM @ airport. Bank of the Maledives wanted to charge 100 MRF = 7$ for a single cash withdrawal of 700 MRF. I refused. Luggage deposit charge is only payable in cash - bring USD or change money with 1%+BOM spread or this 7$ ATM fee… Very welcoming 
The other bank‘s ATM was out of order. Otherwise airport shopping in USD was again all fine as to pay on the hotel island…
Be prepared anyway for a 15$ costly whoppers…
